Bridges of My Yearning

This came to me today as I was missing someone who's been a huge influence in my life. Thank you to all of my friends who have held my hand when I wanted to give up, when I doubted myself and my path, and loved me enough to tell me that "this too shall pass".

Bridges of My Yearning

A voyage.
A Journey.
A path.
Or simply life.

Those of us who like to romanticize,
spiritualize or "biggie size" our lives
find little value in describing it
as "simply life."

It does little to define our presence,
our place or our mission.

I've come to discover something the
average person might call a transition.

We lovers of life don't transition, we
cross over, we evolve, go through a
metamorphosis or transmutation.

We might even just shift into another
gear, reconstruct our lives, or make
a mid-course change.

How?

Bridges.

It just came to me. I never really
understood it until I said, "I'll
cross that bridge when I get to it!"

Bridges don't just get us there. They
don't provide short cuts. They are
a part of the dream, the goal, the plan,
the journey, or path.

Maybe that is the answer after all of
these years. I was told to keep my
eye on the goal. I was encouraged to
enjoy the view and that it was not the
destination but the journey.

I now believe the most important part
may very well be the bridges. Not
physical stone and iron bridges that
take us over rivers or across valleys.

I speak of the people who help us get
to where we are supposed to be.

Like the flight attendant who was extra
attentive and actually listened to me
when I shared my dreams; the hotel desk
clerk who held my hand when they called
to tell me my dad died; the absolute
perfect stranger who was a never-to-be-seen
again guide appearing out of nowhere to say...
"You'd make a good writer!"

Then vanished.

The most significant moments in my life
are all tied together by bridges...people.

So, it is a fact that you must know what
you want and where you want to go
but search with your heart for those
who can get you there.

We are both bridges and travelers.
Life is a shared experience and we need
each other.

There is so much more ahead for us all.
The dreams, the hopes I held and maybe
even the love I desired, were and
still remain..."the bridges of my yearning."

"I wish you enough!"

I wish you enough sun to keep your attitude bright.
I wish you enough rain to appreciate the sun more.
I wish you enough happiness to keep your spirit alive.
I wish you enough pain so that the smallest joys in life appear
much bigger.
I wish you enough gain to satisfy your wanting.
I wish you enough loss to appreciate all that you possess.
I wish you enough "Hello's" to get you through the final "Goodbye."
