Hello friends,
I haven't checked in for awhile for I thought it was time to update the blog. I hope that each and every one of you had a wonderful Valentine's Day, whether you are single, married, dating, or otherwise. I think that perhaps at this time of year more than most, it is important to reframe love.
A good number of people think that Valentine's Day is less important if they don't have a "special someone" to share it with. But I pose this question: Did someone you love - a family member, friend, acquaintance, etc let you know they cared by at least saying "Happy Valentine's Day, making a phone call, etc? Better yet, did you?
I believe in love and the way that love can change people. If there was ever something magical, it is love. What love really requires is that we give of ourselves, therefore, there is no price tag that can be placed on love and those who measure love by how much something costs don't truly know how to love. I love knowing that I'm thought of; that is what matters to me. If I'm shown that I'm thought of by the one I love, I don't care what form that takes - that is not the important part to me.
Put away the rulers. You cannot measure joy.
Tuck away the scale. You cannot judge
happiness by how much it weighs. Put
away the microscope, you cannot see love
in your heart. So, how do you know joy,
happiness and love exists? You must have
faith.
Like the flowers in the picture: they are beautiful, they were chosen with love for the message they carry, even the bouquet name has meaning. What they said to me, however, is "Even though I may not be there in person, I love you, you are on my mind and in my heart. Thank you for being a part of my life."
I came across this essay from Bob Perks that perfectly illustrates the way I feel about love:

"Love Notes"

It's that time of year again when the
pressure to find love, give love, express
love is all measured in dollars and cents.

love is all measured in dollars and cents.
I was at a local florist this morning and
saw a bouquet of roses in a plain vase for
$99.

I am sure some of you will be quick to say
that's a bargain. I understand some areas
that same dozen would be so much more.
I must ask why a single rose was just $2.50
a few weeks ago and now, now love costs more.

My friend, I am writing to tell you love costs
nothing.
nothing.
While speaking to an older couple recently,
I asked how they stayed in love for so long.
I asked how they stayed in love for so long.
"Love notes," she replied.
"Oh, you leave each other little notes?" I followed.
They looked at each other and smiled.
"Not written notes. She looks at me and I note
that it means, "I love you!"
that it means, "I love you!"
"He touches my hand and I note that after all this
time we still hold hands."
time we still hold hands."
"She calls my name and like notes of music I hear
her love song."
her love song."
"He lies next to me in bed at night and I note his
heart beats only for me."
heart beats only for me."
They both laughed, smiled and he put his arm
around her.
around her.
I noted how much in love they really are.
How much does love cost? Hold hands, smile,
call their name.
call their name.
Are you taking notes?

I wish you enough sun to keep your attitude bright.
I wish you enough rain to appreciate the sun more.
I wish you enough happiness to keep your spirit alive.
I wish you enough pain so that the smallest joys in life appear
much bigger.
I wish you enough gain to satisfy your wanting.
I wish you enough loss to appreciate all that you possess.
I wish you enough "Hello's" to get you through the final "Goodbye."
I wish you enough rain to appreciate the sun more.

I wish you enough loss to appreciate all that you possess.
I wish you enough "Hello's" to get you through the final "Goodbye."

You are loved!!!
Beautiful! I love meaningful writings and poetry. I can tell that you do also.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the nice comments on my blog. Yes for me it would be hard to post a fantasy life, although sometimes I would like to fib a little about my weight or age. Not seriously though.
I miss the sitting on the porch days too. I hardly ever go to the HE site anymore. I guess I should check it out now and then.
By the way, I really enjoy your blogspot too.
Have a happy day
Iris
Gina has taken away most of the forums that were chatty and made it all diet and recipes now so what little was left of the feel after Joanna died is now gone completely.
ReplyDeleteShe was railing over Blessing posting the prayer, etc.
